BSc (Hons) Professional Health Studies

The BSc Top-up Professional Health Studies programme will help you understand the relationship between integrated health and social care systems. The course has been designed primarily for health and social care professionals such as support workers, nurses, social workers, paramedics, and other allied health professionals such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, counsellors, and those providing holistic therapies.

This specialised degree will cover topics of the social care system and health policy. You will study fundamentals in professional healthcare and will be able to propose solutions to contemporary healthcare issues in everyday practice.

Course Module

Year 3

In year 3 you will complete one core module (Critical Research Appraisal) as well as five optional modules (from a list of 20 options) including:

  • Long-Term Conditions Management
  • An Introduction to Palliative Care
  • Therapeutic Communication
  • Pain Management
  • Essentials of Cancer Care
  • Supporting People Facing Loss

Year 4

You will complete the following core module:

Honours Dissertation
You will then need to undertake 4 optional modules:

  • Effective Teaching in Practice
    eHealth: Assessment from a Distance
  • Improving Population Health
  • Leadership in Health and Social Care
  • Utilising eHealth to support Healthcare

You may take 3 modules from the above list and one other module from our list of available modules (at SCQF Level 9) if appropriate.

Career Prospect

With the BA (Hons) International Business at UWS you can prepare yourself for a career in international business through this specialist degree, giving you the opportunity to study and learn about the vast business landscape, and develop the knowledge and skills to embark upon an exciting profession in any kind of company, from small-to-medium-sized enterprises to large, multi-national organisations. Upon completion students with the BA International Business can pursue careers in general business in a variety of different sectors. Graduates may also follow a variety of routes at post-graduate level both within the University and elsewhere. Many may pursue professional qualifications in their chosen specialist area of study.
