Introduction

About the seminar

Machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) are frequently featured in today’s technology news, but is machine learning the extent of what AI encompasses?

This seminar will delve into the true nature of AI, exploring recent accomplishments and their place in the history of AI development. It will offer insight into the long-term objectives of the AI community.

The field of AI is vast, so we will provide a simplified explanation of how AI functions. Although the discussion will only touch lightly on some areas, the audience should gain a general understanding of how AI operates.

After establishing a high-level understanding of AI, the seminar will also examine its current limitations and how they align with our comprehension of AI processes.

We will briefly consider how and when these limitations could be surpassed and what implications, such as legal and ethical, may arise as a result.

Llewelyn Fernandes is a Computer Scientist, educator, and consultant for UWS London.

Llewelyn’s interest in algorithms and machine learning resulted in a move to an R&D role, leading a team building text classification software using AI and machine learning techniques. The work resulted in several patented approaches and a transformation in the scale of the organisation’s operation.

His current focus is teaching some of the hot topics in computing from Robotics, Data Science, and Machine Learning to Artificial Intelligence. His approach is to use hands-on, creative workshops, which often break away from a pure computer-based operation to help reinforce the mental models required to grasp computer programming.
