Can you defend your point of view?

Learn to Debate with Confidence and Purpose

The Debate for Thinkers Workshop is an engaging and interactive session designed to help student develop essential critical thinking, communication, and reasoning skills through the practice of debate. Whether participants are new to debating or already enjoy discussing ideas, this workshop provides a supportive environment to build confidence and learn practical techniques for expressing opinions effectively.

Throughout the workshop, participants will explore the foundations of persuasive communication, including how to structure arguments, support claims with evidence, and analyse different points of view.

After an introduction to key debate concepts, participants will be presented with a debate topic and invited to choose a position to defend. Working in small groups, they will have time to research the topic, gather evidence, and prepare arguments before taking part in a structured debate. During the debate, participants will practise presenting their ideas clearly, responding to challenges, and developing effective counterarguments.

The workshop encourages curiosity, collaboration, and respectful discussion. Participants will learn how to evaluate information, distinguish facts from opinions, and consider perspectives that may differ from their own. These skills are valuable not only in academic settings but also in everyday conversations, future studies, and leadership opportunities.
