Let’s talk about hobbies. When you allocate time out of your week for the things you love you will not only have a great time doing them but you’re allowing yourself to totally disconnect from the everyday stresses life can bring. If you’re reading this and are realising that you currently don’t have any hobbies, don’t fret as it’s never too late to start and there are always plenty of choices when it comes to hobbies in London.

We all deserve self-love and dedicated “me time” and what better way than diving into something new and different that you’ve never tried before. It’s guaranteed that there’s something out there for everyone and there’s nothing better than getting hooked on a new hobby and getting excited about it each week. Jumping into a new hobby is also a great way to connect, meet new people and expand your friend circle.

So if you’re looking to discover a new hobby, your new thing, something to immerse yourself in – then look no further as we’ve compiled a list of various different hobbies in London for you.

Hobbies In London

Open Mic Poetry Night

Are you someone who loves spoken word? Do you enjoy writing and sharing your thoughts with others and hearing the beautiful words they have to share too? Try a go at attending an open mic poetry night. If this is something that you think you’ll fancy, you’re spoilt for choice with the array of open mic nights across London. These nights often offer a very open and non-judgemental space, allowing everyone to share their art with the room and absorb what others have to say. This is a very affordable hobby to take up too as most nights are free and it doesn’t cost you anything to write a poem!

Geocaching

One of the more unusual hobbies in London to take up is Geocaching. Geocaching is basically an advanced form of treasure hunting. This involves using a GPS to help you find a series of ‘caches’ located in areas all over the UK. Geocaching requires you to either leave behind what you’ve found or leave behind a new prize for the next person. There are many of these special caches scattered all around the UK and London has some great locations. Another reason why a lot of people love geocaching is that it allows them to visit and explore places that they wouldn’t normally venture out to. This is also an affordable hobby to pick up, as the app itself is free and all you will need to pay for is possibly public transport to your designated hunting area. Other than that you’re good to go! Explore, find hidden gems and have fun!

Learn To Skateboard

Ever wanted to be a skater girl/boy?  Why not give it a go and teach yourself how to skate? This is again a great way to meet new people and find new friends.

Of course you will have to purchase your own board and safety gear, such as helmets and kneepads in order to start this hobby but it’s a one time purchase and you can even search for these second hand if you are on a tight budget.

If you feel you need more guidance then House of Vans runs a skate school where they have a bowl, mini ramps and a street area. They have teachers who can help you with anything and everything from balancing on your board when you’re just starting out to landing your first trick. All levels are welcome there and they will even provide you with a skateboard if you need.

Join A Book Club

If you are the bookworm of the group and love nothing more than losing yourself in the world of the latest novel? Then join a book club and gather with other bookworms across the capital. It doesn’t matter what kind of literature you enjoy, there’s a group out there with a stimulating conversation for everyone.

This hobby can also be extended throughout your week with special trips to your local library or bookstore to search for and pick up your group’s next read.

Take A Yoga Class

If buzzing London life is getting to you and you want something that will calm you down yet keep you moving then yoga is the answer! Whether you sit at a desk all day studying, want to heal an injury or want to keep fit, taking up yoga as your new hobby will benefit you in many ways.

Slow movements and deep breathing increases blood flow, builds muscle strength and improves flexibility. It is a great hobby to get into if you are in need of stress relief, have trouble sleeping or need a mood booster.

With the hustle and bustle of life in this fast-paced city, it has become one of the most popular hobbies in London to take up. It allows you to have a moment in your day to calm the mind, connect with your body and feel at peace.

This is of course a hobby that will cost you per class to attend. Online versions at home can be a cheaper option but then you not only miss out on the amazing zen atmosphere of the studio but many instructors have said that you could easily be doing the positions wrong and over time injure yourself.

So there you have it! Five new hobbies in London that you can try out and get hooked on. There’s something for everyone in London and it’s never too late to try something new that interests you. Whether you are a treasure-hunting adventurer, a bookworm, a skater or you fancy getting up on stage and reciting some spoken word poetry. Your new hobby awaits you, make sure you schedule that time for yourself and the things you love. Get ready for some fun and fulfilling me-time learning new things and making new friends in one of the greatest cities in the world!
