Course overview

MSc Information Technology with Project Management is designed for graduates from non-technical backgrounds who want to develop practical knowledge of information technology and project management.

Whether your previous degree is in business, humanities, social sciences or another non-technical subject, this course provides a route into the technology sector. No previous IT or computing experience is required.

You’ll build a foundation in information systems, databases and networking before progressing to specialist modules in technology project management. You’ll learn how organisations plan, deliver and manage technology projects while developing an understanding of how information technology supports business strategy and organisational goals.

To achieve an MSc Information Technology with Project Management, you’ll study 180 credits, including 120 credits of taught modules and a 60-credit master’s project.

    Develop an understanding of computer networks, internet communications and the technologies that support the transfer of information across modern digital systems.

    Learn how to design, build and manage databases that help organisations store, organise and use data effectively.
  • Information Systems Analysis and Design 20 credits
    Explore how information systems are planned, analysed and developed to meet organisational needs and support business operations.
  • MSc Masters Pathway Project 60 credits
    Complete an independent project within the field of information technology and project management. You’ll apply the knowledge and skills developed throughout the course to investigate and address a real-world business or technology challenge.

  • Information Technology Project Management 20 credits
    Learn how technology projects are planned, delivered and controlled. You’ll explore project lifecycles, resource management, risk management and stakeholder communication.
  • Enterprise Architecture 20 credits
    Develop an understanding of how organisations design, manage and align technology systems with business objectives, strategies and operational requirements.

Students will normally choose one of the following modules:

  • Interactive Software Design 20 credits
    Learn how to design user-focused software applications with an emphasis on usability, accessibility and user experience.

We welcome applications from UK and international students.

You should normally hold a UK honours degree (2:2 or above), or an equivalent international qualification, in a non-IT subject from a recognised institution.

This course is designed for graduates from non-technical backgrounds.

We may also consider:

  • Applicants with an ordinary degree on an individual basis
  • Applicants with relevant academic, vocational or professional qualifications
  • Applicants with relevant industry experience

Candidates may be invited to attend an interview as part of the admissions process.

English language requirements

For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English language proficiency level. The qualifications below must have been gained within two years of the start of your course.
